“Yesterday I walked into Sainsbury’s looking for new kombucha to review and found my G Spot instead” is not a sentence I ever thought I would write. But here we are.
Yes, yes, yes. I know. G Spot beverages aren’t tea. But this blend, Soothe, contains L-Theanine which is an amino acid that’s only found in tea leaves and certain fungi. So, that’s close enough for me. Make the leap.
You might have seen G Spot drinks among the functional beverages in the supermarket aisles, or you may have seen their founder, Gillian Anderson, promoting them on Instagram. However you learned of the beverage and found your way to our blog; welcome!
In this review, I’ll be exploring the flavour and ingredients of G Spot Soothe to help you decide if this functional beverage is worth trying.
G Spot Soothe Functional Beverage
- Drink: sparkling canned
- Ingredients: Carbonated water, apple juice from concentrate, lemon juice from concentrate, erythritol, thyme, juniper, coriander, angelica, sage, natural flavours, citric acid, l-theanine, magnesium lactate, reishi mushroom extract, maca root extract, zinc
- Function: Soothe the mind and mood
- Flavour: Bright sparkling apple juice with herbaceous undertones
- Where to Buy: Amazon UK, Sainsbury’s and G Spot Official Website

This is a fizzy apple drink – and it’s delicious! It’s bright and fizzy on your tongue, sweet but not too sweet (which is surprising given that it’s made from apple juice concentrate), and there’s this soft herbaceous edge underlining it all.
Things you cannot taste include: lemon, thyme, juniper, coriander, angelica, reishi mushroom, and of course, sage. That’s a bit of a shame, as I’d have liked a more complex flavour profile given the name Scarlet Apple & Sage.
I drink mine over ice, but you can keep it in the fridge instead. Either way, sip it cold and in the evening.
Does it Actually Soothe You?
I’m currently sipping my third can on a Friday evening after a long day of work – I most certainly feel soothed, just like after the first and second cans I had earlier in the week.
L-theanine is no joke. It’s the key component of tea leaves that give you that focused feeling. It’s why coffee makes you jittery (no l-theanine) and tea makes you calm and collected (yes l-theanine). You can read my article about How L-Theanine Works to learn more about that.
The other functional ingredients in this beverage are zinc, reishi and magnesium, all of which have some evidence of soothing you in some way. So in that sense, this functional beverage really is functional.

The effects I personally felt after drinking my G Spot Soothe:
- Relaxed shoulders, no tension
- Calm mind, no racing thoughts
- A generally mellow disposition
- Deep and restorative sleep later that evening
Will you feel these effects too? I’m not sure. I imagine it depends on how much l-theanine you already have swimming around your brain – if you’re a heavy tea drinker, you might already be riding that calm l-theanine “high”.
Is This Drink Good for Me?
Well, I don’t think G Spot Soothe is bad for you. It’s caffeine-free, no added sugar, low calorie and contains natural ingredients… though the definition of “natural” is pretty loose these days.
I’m not sure I’d consider magnesium lactate and zinc to be natural ingredients – they don’t grow on trees by themselves in little clumps of minerals, they need to be extracted from something else, at the very least. That being said, there’s nothing on the list of ingredients that you wouldn’t find in some part in nature by consuming the foods you could forage and hunt.
There are no “food-like substances” in this drink, it’s all “real food” in some way or another. No artificial flavours or added sugar is always a bonus.

Summary
At the end of the day, when Dr Scully tells you to drink something, your options are:
- Yes ma’am
- *slurping noises*
Like the woman herself, these drinks are bubbly and delicious. Functional or not, I believe they are worth trying.
You can find G Spot on Amazon as well as on Sainsbury’s shelves and the official website. I got my box of 4 cans for £6 which isn’t exactly the cheapest option in the supermarket but it’s not bad if you want to treat yourself!
